There’s always a ton of articles about how to lose your baby weight, but what about those of us who have managed to keep it on? Sometimes even YEARS later. Doesn’t our effort count for anything?!?!? Click through to see my best tips. 😎
There are seriously so many goodies on this list – from my (expensive, but use it every day) Nespresso machine to my Glossier make up, which makes me look awake for school drop off – it’s LIFE-CHANGING. If I do say so myself. 😂
What if you could make one tiny change a week until you found yourself living life with more joy, connection and confidence? What if you made the tiniest shifts and started feeling like the truest version of yourself? What if you finally unleashed your inner rock star on the world? It can happen. Pinkie swear.
There’s nothing I love more than a romper for Summer – there’s basically nothing to think about! I took one of my faves (a basic black version) and styled it three ways for going out, heading to the park, and off to work.
Okay, so I haven’t been around, but, you guys, I have a very good reason. I had our baby! Woo hoo!
Without further ado (there’ll be much more of that later), I’d like to introduce you all to Bennett Derek Hawes, who was born two weeks ago and is turning out to be quite the little snuggler. Oh mah God, I can’t believe how much I love the little nugget already.
The question everyone keeps asking is, “How is it compared to the first?” and, strangely enough, so far (remember we’re only two weeks in) it seems easier-ish. It’s totally chaotic, mind you; yesterday we went to the park and it took us THREE hours to get out of the house and I’m not exaggerating even a touch. But we made it out the door, which was something that took me almost a month to do last time. And I had forgotten how much time is spent feeding and changing diapers and how long the nights can seem when you’re the only one up, but, I don’t have the anxiety that I had with Alice where I felt like every minute I kept her alive was a win for our family.
This time feels, dare I say, fun whereas last time it felt like I was laser-focussed on surviving. Then again, last time I sometimes wouldn’t talk to anyone outside of the barista and Chris for days at a time while this time we’ve had so much support and love and meals I honestly feel like my cup is pouring over (my sister even came over and cleaned my whole house yesterday, which was magic, pure magic.) Having said all of this, I did only get two hours of consecutive sleep last night, cried three times yesterday (once because I left my keys in the house and the stairs seemed overwhelming) and may or may not have showered in a week so… I’ll leave it to you how much stock you put in anything I say.
Part of the fun has been moments like this:
Nothing quite prepared me for how much my heart would melt when my two year old looked at my newborn and stroked his hair and declared him “so sweet I could eat him.”
Now, I have to include one hospital shot for a couple reasons. One, because they are always my favorite on Facebook. Everybody is exhausted, but there’s a joy and wonder there of just meeting this new person for the first time, which can’t be replicated when everybody’s all spruced up. And, secondly, I’ve been dying to cut my hair off, but my hairdresser insisted I keep it long until after the birth and, ohmygoodness, how right was he?!? I mean, here I am, working harder than I had in months for hours upon hours and, I’ve gotta say, my ponytail held up surprisingly well. The man knows what he’s talking about.
Now, this is probably going to knock your socks off, but, after my prolonged absence (more about that later) I actually am back. And tomorrow night I’m joining Carousel Designs and some of my favorite bloggers in a Pin Party over on Pinterest from 6pm PST/9pm EST (hey, I’m all for a party where I don’t have to leave my house). We’ll be pinning Summer Nursery Inspiration (I’m leaning towards coral, turquoise, and popsicles), which seems appropriate given that some of you live where it’s nice and sunny. For us San Franciscans it will be a chance to use the power of the internet to enjoy summer; heck, I may even pull out a swimsuit, make up a piña colada, and turn the heat up to a balmy 80.
Stop by the board at 6pm PST tomorrow night to see the pinning in progress or check it out once it’s all complete! So happy to be back! xx, Kara
